Hi everyone…
I’m trying to understand how child support payments work in relation to SSI disability benefits. Specifically, can child support be taken from SSI disability payments?

Good news for parents on SSI! You likely won’t have to pay child support because SSI benefits are low. Even if you already pay child support, you can go to court to get the amount lowered. Plus, SSI benefits can’t be taken to pay child support.
Since nobody can live on SSI, many people are on it as a result of being young, sick, or disabled and not having paid enough into the government; as a result, we are penalized. Rent is twice as much as the Social Security payout alone; child support, especially from an absent father, should not impact anything. Right now, America is a joke.
If you find yourself in a situation where you were required to pay support, but then begin receiving SSI, you will need to file a petition to request the court to cease the support payments. If you receive SSDI, child support may be deducted from your paycheck. If you don’t pay, the SSA has the authority to deduct a portion of your benefit. They can only garnish up to 65% of the total amount.
