Case management conference... what to expect?

I have a case management conference in about a week. I met with my attorney to go over the other parent’s counterclaim, and they noted it wasn’t filled out mostly. They basically said they agreed with visitations ‘whenever I had time’ and ‘a couple weekends in their current state if possible’ at the end of the claim regarding what type of time split they wanted. They also requested grandparent visitations. Because of this, my attorney thinks the case might be resolved at this meeting. However, when I looked online about what a CMC is, it says it’s just a preparation type of meeting and that cases usually don’t end here. Has anyone seen a custody case resolve at this stage?

Do you agree with what they’re asking for? If so, and if both parties can agree, it might be possible to finalize things right away, especially if there aren’t any contested issues.

It sounds like your lawyer thinks the paperwork is too incomplete to move forward. If you don’t agree with their requests, that could complicate things.

In my experience, CMCs can sometimes lead to resolutions, but it really depends on how cooperative both parties are. If there are major disagreements, it might just be a step toward a longer process.

It’s good to come prepared for the meeting. If both sides can’t agree, you may end up with another hearing to sort things out.

Every case is different, so it’s hard to say. Just keep communication open with your attorney—they’ll guide you through it.
