Child support question in Georgia

I filed for child support back in October 2023, and we haven’t made any progress. At that time, he was in Colorado, and I live in Georgia, so I filed here. Now I received a letter saying he moved to Pennsylvania (he’s military). DCSS sent the petition to his new state back in March, but we haven’t heard anything since. I keep calling, and they just tell me they requested an update and it can take 90 days for a response. Is this normal, and could he be ignoring everything that’s sent to him?

Since he is in the service, you can get his command involved. They will ensure he pays while you go through the process.

Exactly! His military status means he can’t just ignore it.

It’s normal for interstate cases to take longer. The federal guidelines say they have 90 days after confirming his address to serve him. If they don’t have a confirmed address, that window hasn’t started.

Absolutely, UIFSA governs interstate child support, and it can take months, especially with military involvement.

Contact the military branch he’s in. They’ll help you. Service members can’t just choose not to support their kids.

Military personnel can be found easily through their chain of command. They can face consequences for not supporting their children.

You can also reach out to the local JAG office if you know where he’s stationed. They can assist you.

Just a heads up, you might need to establish paternity first to file for child support. Make sure you’ve covered that.
