Do I have a good chance of supervised visits... alcohol and abuse?

I’m in a tough spot. My son’s dad has not been involved in his life much (he’s 3) and has a history of alcohol issues and domestic violence against me. I live in Wyoming and he lives 5 hours away in South Dakota. He wants custody, but I’m worried about my son being alone with him. What are my chances for supervised visits given his past?

You should definitely ask for a step-up plan that starts with supervised visits. Given his history, the court will likely consider that. Make sure there are restrictions on him driving with your child too.

I agree, starting with visits in Wyoming makes sense. He hasn’t seen your son in months, so that works in your favor.

Given that he has no real relationship with your son, asking for supervised visits should be reasonable. A third party supervising is a good idea.

I think your chances are good. Those DUIs and the DV history will definitely raise concerns in court.

Make sure you check how Wyoming handles domestic violence in custody cases. It might help your case a lot.
