Do I really need a lawyer for this divorce process?

So my wife filed for divorce on her own, no lawyer involved. We’re in New York, and she just got confirmation that it’s being reviewed. She used an online service because we don’t own property or have kids. Do I actually need a lawyer for this, or can I just go with the flow?

Do you have any liabilities, assets, pets, or kids? If none of that, just split whatever’s in the cookie jar and have a family law office check it out. Should be straightforward!

Nope, nothing like that. Just curious about the process, you know?

@Ava
Gotcha! Then you might be fine handling it without a lawyer. Just be sure to cover all bases!

Wait, it’s being reviewed? Who’s handling that? Lmfao

It’s an online service called Online Divorce. Maybe she just used the wrong terms?

Ah, makes sense! :joy:

If it’s uncontested, you don’t need all the legal stuff. Keep it simple!

I guess that sounds easy enough, but I’m still a bit worried. :thinking:

I did my divorce online too. All we needed was to get it notarized. Just a $400 fee! We had a child but agreed on everything.

Nice! That’s reassuring to hear. Maybe I should just go for it then.

I’d recommend having an attorney look it over. Better safe than sorry, right? Plus, if you ever need help later, you have someone on your side.

Exactly! Just getting a couple of hours for a review might save you from bigger issues later.

@Vail
Thanks, that’s solid advice! I’ll look into that.
