I got married over 10 years ago when I found out my girlfriend from Brazil was pregnant with our son. During our marriage, I bought a house in Brazil under her mother’s name, but since we separated over a year ago, I’ve heard nothing about it. There were a few times she cheated on me, including during a trip to Brazil, and now she’s with the person she cheated on me with. We have two children together, and I pay child support and half of any activity receipts she sends me. I moved closer to them, but now my work has relocated me, and I drive up to six hours round trip just to see my kids on weekends. I want to start over, but she won’t sign the divorce papers because she feels she deserves more. I’m looking for advice on how to move forward in Ontario, Canada.
It sounds like you’ve been through a lot. Have you considered speaking to a lawyer about your situation?

Yeah, a lawyer could definitely help you understand your rights and options for moving forward.
I feel for you, man. It’s tough when you’re trying to be a good dad and you feel stuck. You deserve to finalize the divorce.

For sure. You shouldn’t have to wait forever just because she wants more. You have your own life to build.
You might want to think about filing for divorce on your own if she keeps refusing to sign. Sometimes that can push things along.

Good idea. It might make her realize you’re serious about wanting to move on.
It’s clear you’re doing your best for your kids. Just keep focusing on being a great dad and getting your life back on track.

Exactly. Don’t let her hold you back. You deserve to be happy too.
It’s frustrating when one parent is difficult, but keeping communication open about the kids is essential. Just take it one step at a time.

That’s solid advice. And don’t forget to take care of yourself too during all this.
