How do I ask a judge to set a hearing date... anyone got a template?

I’m a pro se litigant and need to file a motion to ask the judge to set a hearing date. I’m not very familiar with the legal jargon, so any help with the proper name of the motion and what details I should include would be really appreciated. I need as much info as possible to make sure I get it right.

Hey, I can help you out. You’ll want to file something called a ‘Motion to Set Hearing Date.’ It’s pretty standard, just gotta fill in your case details and what you need the hearing for.

Do you have a specific format for that motion? Like what should it look like exactly?

@Ivy
Yeah, I found one online! It’s got sections like background info, why you need the hearing, and dates you’re available. I can share it if you want!

I had to do this before! If you want, I can send you a sample I used for my case. It’s pretty simple once you break it down.

That would be awesome, thanks! I’m just a little lost with all the legal terms.

@Annabelle
No problem, I’ll DM you the template! Should make it easier for you to follow. :+1:

Here’s a template I used for something similar. Hope it helps: [Link to template]. Basically, you outline your case, state the reasons you need the hearing, and provide some available dates for the judge to consider.

@Samantha
Thank you! I’ll definitely check it out. Really appreciate the help.

Just make sure you’re really clear about what issues you need addressed in the hearing. The judge will want to know exactly why it’s necessary to schedule it.

Got it, I’ll make sure to focus on that. Thanks!

Honestly, you don’t need to worry too much about getting every little detail perfect. The motion is mostly about making sure the judge knows you’re ready for the hearing and want to move things along.

That’s a relief to hear. I was stressing over the wording. Thanks for the reassurance.
