Hey everyone, I’m in a bit of a tough spot and could really use some advice. I’m in the process of separating from my partner, and we have a young child together. I want to make sure that our child gets the support they need, but I’m feeling overwhelmed with all the legal stuff. How do I go about applying for child support? What documents do I need, and what’s the process like? Are there any common pitfalls to avoid or tips to make the process smoother? Any personal experiences or insights would be super helpful. Thanks !
To file for child support, contact the child support office in your county to obtain an application. In most states, you can also fill out and submit the child support application via email or online portal.
You will need proof of your child’s identity and parentage documentation of child-related expenses such as daycare, medical bills, and education costs.
According to what I’ve read so far, Arizona is in favour of a 50/50 split, but it is possible to change your mind with evidence. I’m simply afraid that if I go in without one and he wins because he can afford one. I only have a picture of a notarized letter of his income, therefore I’m afraid he’ll try to resign and work for minimum wage. I suppose I’m thinking how likely it is that I will lose if I don’t hire an attorney. I detest asking for assistance, but if my odds are poor, I might be able to ask my family for a loan.
- The first process as stated above is to contact your local child support office to guide you on the full process.
- Then you can proceed with the application providing the necessary information.
- After submitting your application, the main process will start.
Custody and child support are two whole different things. About a year ago, I placed my ex-husband on child support, and he would need to apply in person to the court to request visitation. The two do not preclude one another. It does not follow that he cannot have visitation rights or vice versa just because he is not currently making child support payments. Put him on child support, please! Mine went toward my son’s college fund. Additionally, there is no cost at all if you use the state.
