Hey folks, I need some advice here. My ex has this internet-enabled camera set up in my 11-year-old son’s bedroom. She’s told me about it several times, especially when she says he’s home sick from school and she leaves him alone to go to work. It feels really invasive to me, but I also get that it’s her house. I’m just not sure what the laws are around this kind of thing since it’s her home and he’s a minor. I can’t find much info on this specific scenario. It feels like it can’t be legal though. Anyone have thoughts or knowledge on this?
Wow, that sounds really concerning. I totally get why you feel like it’s an invasion of privacy. Have you thought about reaching out to a lawyer for advice?
I think it depends on the laws in your state. In Illinois, it might not be illegal since it’s her house, but it feels wrong to me.
This is such a tricky situation. I mean, he’s a minor and should have some privacy. I wonder if there are any specific laws about monitoring kids in their own rooms.
I feel like if it were me, I’d be more worried about how it might affect your son emotionally. Has he mentioned it at all?
You might want to document everything. If you decide to go legal, having a record of her telling you could help your case.
