Is my daughter’s mother in contempt of court for living with her boyfriend?

I’m in a bit of a situation here. During a custody trial, I thought the judge didn’t put any order against me or my daughter’s mother for having partners around our kid. But after checking the court order, it clearly states that neither of us should have any romantic partners around our daughter. My ex started dating her new boyfriend just hours after we broke up and is now living with him. I told her about the court order, thinking she might not know, but she just said ‘That’s not realistic, we live together, so you’ll have to deal with it.’ I’ve reached out to my lawyer, but I’m wondering if this actually counts as contempt of court. The tricky part is that her boyfriend is my cousin, but the order explicitly says no partners around our daughter. Plus, the judge signed an order that bans him from being alone with her. I don’t think the judge realized they were dating. Any advice would be awesome, thanks!

It sounds like she might be in violation of the court order. If it clearly states no partners around your daughter, that’s a big deal. Have you talked to your lawyer about potential next steps?

Wait, so your ex is living with your cousin? That’s kinda messy. But yeah, it seems like she’s ignoring the judge’s order. Did you tell your lawyer that part?

IDK if it’s contempt, but it sounds like she’s not taking the order seriously. Maybe you should document everything and show it to your lawyer?

Yeah, I’m keeping records of everything. Just worried about how this could affect my daughter.

I’ve seen similar situations before. If the order is clear, you might have a case. Judges usually don’t like it when their orders are ignored.

What does contempt of court actually mean? I’m not familiar with that term.

Contempt of court is when someone disobeys a court order. It can lead to penalties, so it’s a serious issue.
