My kids were put on a safety plan due to a false positive drug test... need advice

I live in PA and recently had CPS show up unannounced. They wouldn’t tell me or my husband why they were there. After refusing drug tests, they returned two weeks later with a report of drug use. I agreed to take a test, which came back positive for meth, despite knowing I’m not on drugs. I took Vics cold and flu, which has phenylephrine, potentially causing a false positive. My kids have been staying with a neighbor for two weeks now. I feel like I should have refused the test, but I wanted to prove them wrong. We just tested clean again, but they’re saying we need two more clean tests for the kids to return home. I’m scared they won’t be back by Christmas, and my kids are really struggling with this. My middle daughter is autistic, and my older daughter is acting out. I just want my kids home. What can I do to speed this up?

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Have you thought about consulting a lawyer? They might help you navigate this process.

It sounds incredibly frustrating. Have you documented everything, including the test results? That could be important.

I can’t believe they’re making you wait so long. It might help to reach out to a local support group for parents dealing with CPS.

I understand how you feel. If your tests keep coming back clean, you might have a case to argue for your kids’ return. Just be careful about not breaking any rules.

Try to stay calm and communicate with CPS regularly. Showing that you’re proactive might help speed things along.
