We’re in California and have been together for 18 months. We can’t wait to get married, but her divorce has been a nightmare and it’s dragging on for over 2 years. Our attorney thinks it won’t be finalized for at least 4-5 more months. Is there any way I can add her to my health insurance? Can we get a registered domestic partnership? Can we marry in her native country, Mexico? We need health insurance to start fertility treatment ASAP since I’m getting too old to be a father.
I doubt 4-5 months is going to kill off your sperm. What are you really worried about?

Haha, good point! But we really want to start the process soon. It’s been tough waiting.
You might be able to add her to your health insurance as a domestic partner, but it usually requires a declaration of domestic partnership. Check with your insurance provider for their specific rules.

I’ll definitely look into that! Thanks for the info.
Getting married in Mexico could be an option, but make sure you check how it affects her divorce proceedings. It might complicate things.

That’s a good point. I need to make sure we’re not making things worse.
Registered domestic partnerships can provide some health benefits, but you’ll need to meet California’s requirements. Make sure to gather all necessary documents.

Thanks! I’ll see what documents we need to get that started.
It’s great that you’re being proactive about this! Just keep in mind that fertility treatments can be a rollercoaster, so be prepared for that too.

Absolutely! We’re ready for the journey, just need to get the insurance sorted first.
