Reported someone's drinking and mental health to social services in England

I’ve reported concerns about a family’s drinking and mental health to social services. The family is already known to them, and I noticed no one involved mentioned the risks of alcohol or mental health issues of one parent. I’ve witnessed concerning behavior—like falling asleep before children’s bedtime, violence, and hallucinations—but it seems social services have no concerns despite months of working with this person. What happens next? What does the process look like? I want to feel confident they might get support, but I’m not hopeful.

In NY, CPS provides little support and often considers kids safe if one parent is sober, which is frustrating.

So, as long as one carer is seen as sober, the children are considered safe?

Yes, it’s a safety plan, even if the sober person is also suffering. It’s ridiculous.

It sounds similar in the UK. The ‘sober’ one is struggling with drinking and mental health episodes. Their story is about abuse from their ex. It’s a mess!

Unfortunately, what’s morally right often doesn’t align with the law. Many people with kids shouldn’t have them.

Seems like hearsay until you have proof.

I wonder if they will do random checks and ask the children involved. I’m worried this person won’t get help.
