I have a protective order against my ex-husband, and it was really frustrating because it took 15 months to get it served. After it expired nine months later, I’m having trouble with getting the second order served too. The city police usually respond to incidents, but it’s the county that’s supposed to serve the protective orders. My ex has called the police on me repeatedly with wild allegations, everything from drug manufacturing to child abuse, which has led to multiple officers showing up at our house during the night. This constant stress is really taking a toll on my kids. He’s even called DCS a bunch of times, and my kids have had to go through some pretty uncomfortable interviews because of the allegations he keeps making. Is there anything I can do to address this situation?
That sounds extremely stressful… have you thought about talking to an attorney about potential abuse of the system? In some places, if someone repeatedly calls in false claims, it can actually be a crime.
@Gracie
I agree, that might be a good angle to look into. My mom had issues with an ex too, and they managed to make the calls stop after reporting it as abuse of the system.
You mentioned having trouble with service for the second protective order. Have you considered looking into private companies that specialize in serving court orders? They usually know what they’re doing and can help you navigate the process.
@Violet
That’s a good idea. I think the cost is reasonable, often under $100, and they’re usually pretty effective at handling these situations.
@Violet
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll definitely check that out because this whole thing has been a major headache.
Ugh, I can’t believe how tough this must be for you… has your ex always been like this? I feel like these kinds of false calls can really take advantage of the system.

Yeah, it’s like he knows how to push buttons and create chaos just to make my life difficult. It’s truly exhausting managing all of this.
Have you considered keeping a log of all these incidents? Maybe it could help show a pattern to the authorities or the court. It just seems like he’s taking advantage of the system more than anything.

That’s a really good point. I should start documenting everything. Thanks for the advice.
You really should reach out to someone for legal advice soon… the emotional toll this is taking on you and the kids is not worth it. Plus, knowing your rights and options could give you a better idea of what to do next.
@Nadine
Definitely, I need to take some action. Thank you all for your suggestions. I’ll look into the private servers and get legal advice, for sure.
