Hi everyone, I went to court today for an ex parte order, and the judge suspended dad’s visitation until Nov 14. He’s supposed to return the kids today at 7 pm at the police station. I still don’t have full custody yet, and I’m trying to figure out what this all means. Can he still make appointments for the kids or even try to unenroll them from school? What usually happens at a review hearing like this?
As long as the order is in place, he can’t make changes like moving schools or appointments without violating it.

Good to know. So basically, nothing can change until after Nov 14, right?

Yep, he has to follow the current order exactly. Anything else would be against the rules.
At the review hearing, they’ll talk about custody, visitation, support, and any other issues that need sorting out.

Thanks! Does that mean it’s like a final decision, or is it just another step in the process?

It’s usually not final, just a chance for the judge to review everything and make decisions for now.
Does the ex parte order mention anything about communication with the kids?

No, it doesn’t. I was wondering if he’s allowed to call or contact them directly?

If it’s not mentioned, he probably can, but only if it doesn’t interfere with the order. Might want to double-check though.
I’ve been through something similar. Just stick to the order, and don’t let him manipulate anything before the hearing.

That’s the plan. It’s stressful, though. I just want everything to be clear and fair.

Totally get that. Just keep everything documented in case he tries anything sketchy.
Do you have a lawyer helping you with all this?

Not yet, but I’m thinking about it. Just trying to handle it on my own for now.

You should consider getting one before the review hearing. It might make things smoother for you.
