What happens if my ex hasn't paid child support since September?

So, I’m in a bit of a situation here… the father of my son hasn’t paid child support since September 18. The judge denied his motion to stop payments, but he still hasn’t sent me anything. We have a hearing coming up at the end of November, and I’m just trying to figure out what might happen. Anyone have experience with this?

That sounds really frustrating. I’d make sure to document everything. Missing payments can definitely add up. Have you talked to your lawyer about what’s next?

IDK about the hearing, but it seems like he can’t just avoid paying forever. It’s a debt now, right? You might need to push for garnishment.

What do you mean by garnishment? Is that where they take it straight from his paycheck?

@Darcy
Yeah, exactly! They can take the money directly from his salary if he’s working again. It helps ensure you get paid.

It’s tough when he’s canceling visits, too. That can really affect your son. Have you thought about asking for sole custody since he’s not reliable?

I have, but I know that’s a long shot. I basically have sole custody now, but I want him to be accountable for his actions.

Document everything, seriously! It’ll help your case. I’ve been through similar stuff and keeping records was super helpful.

Ugh, I feel for you. It’s hard when they flake on seeing the kid. Maybe a child psychologist could help your son with all this stress.
