Hi Pals, I’m considering attending the visitation of a friend’s deceased father, though unsure if it’s appropriate given our relationship. I don’t want to intrude or cause discomfort.

Two different things. Visitation is when you go to the funeral home the day before the funeral to comfort the grieving family, sit with them for a while, and slowly look at the body and say nice things about how well he looks.
After the funeral, you bring food to the family of the person who died the next day. There are times when food is set out so that guests can eat and spend time with the grieving family. Other times, people bring food so that the family doesn’t have to cook for a few days.
