Anyone know how to handle garnishment for alimony in Volusia County?

Hey, I need help with something. My ex stopped paying alimony, and I’m trying to get a garnishment order from the court. The divorce was done in Volusia County, but now I live in Bay County, FL. I called my old lawyer in Deltona, but her office was hit by Hurricane Milton and she’s not responding. I know I need a judge to sign off on a garnishment order and send it to my ex’s employer, but IDK how to handle this from a distance. Anyone have experience with this or know what I can do?

Wow, that sounds like a tough situation. If you’re in another county, you could try e-filing the motion or see if they can do a remote hearing. Have you called the court clerk to ask about it?

When I went through something like this, I had to file a motion to enforce the judgment. You might need to ask for a garnishment writ in the motion. There’s usually a template for that, but not sure where you can get it now.

Definitely check with the court clerk first. Some counties let you file everything electronically now, so that might make things easier for you even if you’re in another county.

I had a similar issue, and my ex just stopped paying one day too. I had to get the court involved to enforce it. If you have all the paperwork, it should be straightforward. Just keep pushing through.

Sounds like you’ve got the basics down, but if you need help with the motion or anything else, let me know. I had to do this and it was pretty stressful, but worth it.
