Does moving states affect SSI for my child?

Hey, I’m trying to figure out if moving states would mess up an SSI application for my child. I’m thinking of applying in Georgia but might move to Texas soon after. Would that affect the process or the benefits in any way? Anyone dealt with this before?

You’ll probably just need to update your address. The claim itself should still be valid as long as your child qualifies.

Good to know. So the benefits wouldn’t stop during the move, right?

Nope, they shouldn’t. Just make sure you notify them as soon as you have a new address.

The biggest hassle might just be the paperwork. Moving mid-process could make things a bit more complicated.

Yeah, that’s what I was worried about. Would you recommend waiting to file until after the move?

If you can wait and get settled first, that might be easier. But if your child needs the benefits now, it’s worth starting ASAP.

Health insurance that comes with SSI could help a lot, so maybe don’t wait too long to apply.

That’s a good point. I didn’t realize how much the insurance could make a difference.

It really does, especially if your child has ongoing medical needs. Definitely factor that in.

The process for SSI isn’t quick anyway. Just be prepared for it to take months no matter where you apply.

Yeah, I’ve heard it can be a long wait. Thanks for the heads up.

No problem. Just stay on top of the paperwork, and you’ll get through it.

Once you’re approved, the payments should follow you wherever you move. The key is just keeping everything updated.

Thanks! That’s a relief to hear. I’ll make sure to keep my info current.

Yeah, as long as you communicate with them, you’ll be fine.
