Ex-Wife filed a false claim I'm not paying Child Support and now my pay is being garnished

This week, I got a letter from the state attorney’s office in Washington, alleging that my former spouse has been claiming that I have not been making my child support payments. I can prove via bank records that I have been sending her the monthly amount imposed by the court for the past year.

However, my wages will be automatically garnished by the state. My lawyer has received the letter and the documents, but I have not heard back from her yet. Could I do anything more to help? And is lying to the courts punishable in any way? Or will this be her new method of tormenting us?

I am grateful in advance.

It’s critical that you work closely with your attorney and provide all required documentation on time. If you have been paying, be sure that all of your bank records are complete and well-maintained. Giving false testimony in court can have dire repercussions, including the possibility of facing perjury charges. Have faith in your legal counsel and pay close attention to their advice.

If child support is court-ordered, you’ll likely have official documentation outlining the case and payment details. This documentation serves as strong proof of your payments.
