Hey everyone, I’m trying to figure out my next steps for filing for divorce in Massachusetts. My ex-husband and my daughter’s father lives in another country, and I think it should be a straightforward process since we have verbal agreement about me having sole custody. I know he needs to be served through The Hague, but is there anything else I need to know? Can I handle all the paperwork myself to save on legal fees? Any tips would really help!
I’ve been there! You can definitely file for divorce by yourself, but just double-check the rules about serving him. The Hague can be tricky.

What’s the Hague? I’ve never heard of that before…
@Whitney
It’s basically a way to serve legal documents internationally. You have to follow specific steps.
Yeah, I filed for divorce without a lawyer. Just make sure you get all the forms right! You don’t want to mess that up.

Right! I don’t want to end up having to redo things. Was it hard to find the right forms?
@Finnick
Not really! The state website has a lot of info. Just take your time with it.
I think getting some legal advice might be a good idea. Even just a consultation to make sure you’re on the right track.

Agreed! I know legal fees can be high, but it’s worth it to avoid any big mistakes.
IDK if you’ve looked into it, but sometimes legal aid can help with this kind of stuff if you qualify.

Oh, I didn’t think about that! I’ll check it out, thanks!
Just keep everything organized. It’ll make the process smoother. Good luck with everything!
