I was forced to sign uncontested divorce papers and feel like I made a mistake. My spouse filed back in May, but the court has denied the divorce three times because he didn’t list assets and debts properly. I just found out about these denials a couple of weeks ago. Can I go back to court on Monday and change this to a contested divorce? I’m in Missouri. Has anyone dealt with this?
Yeah, you can usually ask the court to withdraw your consent if you feel forced into signing. Writing a letter to the judge explaining your situation might help. Have you spoken to a lawyer about this?
@Tully
I haven’t yet, but I plan to go to the courthouse on Monday. Hoping I can handle it myself for now.
@Tully
Definitely get legal advice if you can. Even if you start the process on your own, a lawyer can help later.
If the papers were filed on Wednesday, there’s a good chance they haven’t been processed yet. Go early Monday, and it might still be simple to switch.

That’s what I’m hoping! Do you know if I need to bring anything specific with me?

Bring any documents you have related to the case, and maybe write down why you want to contest. Better to be prepared.
I had to switch my divorce to contested too. Just file an updated answer with the court clerk. It’s not too hard.

What’s an ‘updated answer’? Not sure if I know what that is.

It’s basically a response to your spouse’s filing where you state your position. You can ask the court clerk for the form.
