GAL taking a while to make recommendations... what can I do to see my kids?

Hey everyone, I’m having a bit of a situation here. My GAL is taking a while to make recommendations, and I’m wondering what I can do to see my kids sooner. It’s getting really frustrating. Does anyone know the best steps to take when things are dragging like this? Any advice would be helpful!

That’s tough! I had a similar situation before. One thing you can do is document all your attempts to reach out to the GAL—emails, calls, all that. It helps build your case. Also, maybe talk to your lawyer about filing for temporary visitation orders. Courts tend to understand that kids should stay connected with both parents while everything’s pending.

@Georgia
Yeah, totally agree! The court might give you something temporary while the GAL takes their time. It can make a difference for sure.

Sorry to hear that, I know how frustrating it can be. Maybe try sending a polite email to the GAL (cc’ing your attorney) asking for an estimated timeline? They may just need a little nudge. Also, if you don’t have a court order yet, a status conference could help move things along.

@Auden
Oh, didn’t think of a status conference! That could actually push things faster. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ugh, that sounds frustrating. In the meantime, focus on getting any records that support your position—like visitation logs, communication attempts, and any proof of child support payments. Also, maybe consider taking a parenting class? Shows the GAL and court you’re really committed to doing what’s best for the kids.

@Owen
Good idea with the parenting class! I’ve heard it can help show you’re taking extra steps. I’ll look into that.

I had this same issue. The GAL was dragging their feet, so I kept pushing for updates. I also had a few people write letters supporting my ability to parent, which they ended up considering. It might be worth asking family or friends to help out if they can speak to your parenting.

@MissNicklaus
That’s a good idea! I have a few people who could do that for me. It could help make my case stronger.

I know it’s frustrating, but try to stay patient. In some cases, GALs can get backed up with reports. Just keep doing what you’re doing and follow up politely. It should eventually get sorted.

I’m really hoping it gets sorted soon. Thanks for the support, I needed to hear that!
