Hey everyone, I just had my baby (super excited!). I work in Kansas City, Missouri, and I’m wondering how much paid time off I can take now that my little one is here. Does anyone know how this works or what steps I need to take?
Congrats on the new baby! Missouri gives primary parents 6 weeks of paid leave after the baby is born.

Thanks! That’s good to know. Do you happen to know what I need to do to apply for it?

You’ll need to ask your employer for the leave first and then fill out a parental leave form they’ll give you.
Make sure to give notice to your employer as soon as possible. Some workplaces might have additional forms too.

Got it. So a verbal request first, then written, and then the form? Sounds straightforward.

Yep, that’s the usual process. And congrats again on the baby!
Congrats! Just a heads-up, some employers might have extra benefits or policies, so check your HR handbook too.

Good idea, I’ll definitely look into that. Thanks for the tip!

Seconding this. Some places offer extra perks for new parents. Worth asking!
Are you sure the leave is paid? Some places might just hold your job but not cover pay.

Good question. My employer said it’s paid, but I’ll double-check the details just to be sure.

If they mentioned paid leave, you’re probably fine. Just clarify how the payment works, like if it’s full or partial pay.
