How to Stop Child Support?

My spouse and I were separated for several years, but we have recently reconciled and now plan to live together with our daughter. Once we are living together again, we would like to stop paying child support. Is there a legal process for this? I have no experience with the legal system and have never filed anything there. Is there an alternative method? Are there grounds for the judge to refuse our request and continue the support payments? I do have some unpaid child support, but I believe that the money would be better spent if it were not going to the county first. It seems like we are paying for a service that we are not receiving.

Thank you for any assistance.

To close the case, the person who asked for child support services must submit a written request to the child support agency.

Do you owe arrears to your wife or to the state?

I wrote a handwritten letter to the father explaining my reconciliation with him and asking that child support be discontinued. That resolved my problem, however you might require more actions. Going down to the courts with your partner would be the finest course of action.

I wish you luck!

After several years of separation, my spouse and I recently reconciled and plan to live together again with our daughter. With no experience in the legal system, I was unsure how to navigate stopping child support payments. To legally cease child support, we need to file a motion with the court to modify the existing child support order, explaining our new living arrangements and unified household. Judges may refuse the request if there are unpaid child support arrears or concerns about the child’s welfare. Despite believing that direct spending would be more beneficial, we must address any unpaid support through proper legal channels first.
