I messaged my lawyer, but my anxiety is so high that I’m just looking for something to ease my mind tonight. I am currently in divorce proceedings. The MSA and PAJ are pretty much done and just need a few small edits before signing. Then today, I lost my job. So now, what do I do? Should we fill out the child support as if I’m on unemployment income? And then modify child support again when unemployment runs out or when I get a new job? I was really ready for all of this to be done. I was looking at buying a condo with a very small mortgage, and now I can’t do that.
Yes, hang in there. A better piece of property awaits you. It can be tough to see the light right now, but things do have a way of working out.

Thanks for the support. It just feels overwhelming right now with everything going on.
Generally, if there is wiggle room within the MSA, it is for child provisions. If the other side is not willing to agree to a reasonable reduction based on your circumstances, it may be worth pursuing a motion to reconsider once the order is signed. You could also motion to modify or attempt to set aside the child support provisions of the MSA since it is not in the best interest of the child for you to face unrealistic child support obligations due to your job loss.
@Corwin
That makes sense. I wasn’t sure how to approach it, but I will definitely bring it up with my lawyer.
I understand how tough this situation is. Losing a job during a divorce adds a lot of stress. Have you discussed with your lawyer the possibility of a temporary modification for child support until you find a new job?
@Devi
Yes, that’s what I am considering. I just want to make sure I handle it correctly while everything is still in process.
It’s important to document everything, including your job loss. This documentation can help your case when you modify child support. You deserve fair terms considering what you’re going through.

I will make sure to keep track of everything. Thanks for the advice.
It might feel overwhelming right now, but you can get through this. Focus on finding a new job, and when you do, you can adjust everything again. This is just a temporary setback in a longer journey.

I appreciate that perspective. I just hope everything will fall into place soon.
