Hi, I’m new here and really need some advice. My ex legally owes me about 4 years worth of back child support. The thing is, he’s been paying me cash directly instead of through the court, so there’s no official record of those payments. The court hasn’t noticed or enforced anything, and we were just going to keep quiet about it. But now, he’s trying to get a mortgage, and they asked for child support records. My question is, can I go and modify the court order myself now and tell them he paid me in cash? Or will they go after him for it regardless of what I try to do now or whether I want them to? I can’t find any clear info online, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
@Ray
Yeah, that’s what I’m worried about. I don’t want to make things worse for him, but I also need to figure this out.
You should definitely consult a family law attorney. They can help you navigate this process and understand what your options are. It’s better to get professional advice.

Good idea. I’ll look for one in my area. I just want to make sure I’m doing this right.
If you tell the court about the cash payments, they might still hold him accountable for the total amount owed, which could lead to enforcement actions. Just be prepared for that.

That’s what I’m afraid of. I need to protect my interests but don’t want to cause more drama.
Document everything you can about those cash payments. It might help if you end up needing to present your case in court.

I’ll start keeping track of everything. Thanks for the suggestion!
Good luck! It’s a tough situation, but you’ll figure it out. Just take it one step at a time.

Thanks! I really appreciate the support. It helps to talk to others who understand.
