Need advice on child custody case... where to start?

I have been divorced from my ex-husband since 2012, and since then, we’ve been stuck in this ongoing battle over visitation and parenting time. We had a hearing in December and have another one coming up in March. I want to get some legal advice—and hopefully representation—before that hearing to help me prepare. I’ve tried reaching out to several legal aid organizations, but I keep hitting dead ends since our case is pretty complicated. It started in Washington County, Oregon, but I now live in Pierce County, Washington. I’m low-income, so I’m looking for a legal aid clinic with a sliding fee scale or something similar. But when I called places in Washington County, they said I needed to be a resident there to qualify. I also learned that I need an attorney licensed in Oregon for my case. Should I just reach out to places in Washington, or does anyone have similar experiences and can point me in the right direction?

You might want to start contacting law schools. They often have free or low-cost legal clinics that can help.

IANAL, but contacting the legal aid clinic near you is a good idea. There might be someone there who can practice in Oregon.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll definitely check out the law schools and keep trying the legal aid clinics.

Have you looked into online legal resources? Some websites offer free advice and might help you understand your options.

Keep pushing for help. Navigating custody cases can be tough, but don’t give up. There are resources out there!

Consider reaching out to local family law attorneys. Some may offer a free consultation to discuss your situation.
