Thoughts on winter drivability for my SQ8... anyone know?

Hey everyone, I just got my new SQ8 and I’m a bit stuck on tire choices. I wanted the 23”s, but they only come with summer tires. We don’t have terrible winters where I live, but it does snow a few times. With winter coming up soon, should I just park it when it snows? What do you all think about winter drivability? Looking forward to your thoughts!

Have you thought about getting an all-weather tire? They still have the snowflake symbol but work well above freezing. I’ve used a few for winter driving, and they performed great even on longer trips where the weather changed. What kind of interior did you choose for your SQ8?

@Beth
I went with the black interior. I wanted grey, but couldn’t find anything with the Waitomo blue. The black looks nice, so I’m happy with it!

Summer tires are going to turn into hockey pucks when it gets cold. Seriously, it’s better to get all-season tires instead.

Exactly! They can even crack in colder weather, which is a real bummer.

I totally agree with going for all-season tires. Since you mentioned your winters are pretty mild, they should do just fine for you.

That makes sense. I just hate to give up the brand new summer tires since they have such good grip and performance. Maybe I could get an extra set of wheels and tires for winter?

@Gwendolyn
Definitely get an extra set! You don’t wanna toss the summer tires.

Switch to all-seasons when winter hits, then back to summers after. It might cost around $120 each time you switch, but if you can afford the SQ8, that cost is nothing, right? :sunglasses:

Not a bad idea. How many miles can I expect to get out of summer tires? Also, I might have overspent on this car… MSRP was $127,575!

Why not just get winter tires? All-seasons are good, but they’re a compromise. Having a set for winter would be optimal.

Yeah, I think that’s the best option. You’ll have the right tires for the conditions. Just makes sense.

Honestly, it’s an SUV. You’re not taking it to the Nurburgring, right? All-seasons should be fine unless you plan on doing something crazy.

True, just keep the summers and swap them at the right times. If you’re considering that, you might want to think about getting winter tires too.
