What's the Deal with Memorial Visitations?

I’m a bit confused about this whole “memorial visitation” thing. I went to a funeral once and there was this gathering before the actual service where people were kind of hanging out and offering condolences. Is that what a memorial visitation is?

The whole idea of funerals is very old-fashioned and doesn’t make any sense anymore. You can just burn the body and move on with your life.

A memorial visitation is a gathering to honor and remember a loved one who has passed away. It’s a chance for friends and family to offer condolences, share memories, and find comfort together.

Unlike a traditional visitation, where the body is present, a memorial visitation usually takes place after the person has been cremated or buried.

You don’t have to do anything. Is there a small funeral that makes you feel like you should be there? Then go to the funeral. People will see you there and admire your hard work, but as you said, it will make it harder to make friends.

But if your uncle was well-liked, visits might be better. You can stand in line, say your prayers, and then leave. Your family will be too busy with guests to give you their full attention.
